    Ooty Flower Show

    The First Flower Show in Ooty was started in the year 1896. The most awaiting Ooty Flower show dates are declared. This summer the three-day flower show, which begins on Friday 14th of May. The beautiful flower show presents a mesmerizing scene with flowers of numerous varieties and colors.

    The serious initiatives of the horticultural department and the Government have made the Flower Show in Ooty more attractive. During the flower show more than 15000 flowers are to be exhibited. Varieties of flowers that are grown in the region and other imported varieties are to be displayed in the exhibition. This year Bonzai tree and Tulip flowers will be the show stealers.

    Flower Show Schedule:

    • Rose Garden Show – 8th and 9th of May.
    • Flower Show – 14th, 15th and 16th May.
    • Fruits Show – 29th and 30th of May

    Ooty Botanical Garden (2 kms)


    As the name says this Garden formed by Mr.Mc.Ivor during the year 1857-1867 is a collection of flora. Words to be found to describe the beauty of this botanical Garden.

    Ooty Children’s Park

    At the eastern end of the lake we find a children’s park. Already the climate and natural green carpet, adding pride to ooty, this children’s park is also an important place.

    Ooty Boat House Lake (1 km)

    Even though the name of this lake is boat House Lake, people use to call this lake as ooty lake. The British ruler called john Sullivan has constructed this beautiful lake in the years 1823-1825.

    Pykara

    This is the name of a river in this district. It is believed to be the largest in the place. The old Tribals called Todas Believed this River as a Holy one and they were worshipping this river in days of yore.

    Tiger Hill (16 kms)

    A Beautiful hill located to the east of udagamandalam. That too is at the lower bend of Dodda-Betta peak.

    Avalanche (15 kms)

    Located at a distance of 25 km from ooty. A place that should not be missed. A dam called Canada dam is seen here. An exotic experience of mountain trekking could be realized in this place.

    Dodda Betta (10 kms)

    This is the highest point in nilgris Located at a distance of 8 km from ooty. In nilgris plateau this peak point runs north- south. A very high location, whose height is about 2636 m.

    Glenmorgan (25 kms)

    This place is 25 kms away from Ooty and it is near Singadra power station of Pycara Power Eclectic Power co. There is a beautiful lake near this tea estate and Singadra. Here the Haulage rope way is in operation to go to the Power station. The experience of going by this rope way was enchanting with the full greenery and scenic beauty.

    The Incline near the Glermorgan point is very perpendicular and this distance of half a kilometer has difficult ascent and descent. The total haulage rope system is about 3 kms and we had a thrilling experience. Glenmorgan is a beautiful picnic spot also, and people in group visit this place Electricity Board and also for other visitors.

    Glenmorgan Tea Estates is owned by Glenmorgan Tea Estates. This Estate is famous for tea plantations and production of particular variety of tea called Chunmee tea meaning Eyebrow. The leaf resembles an eyebrow and that is why they got the name. It is famous for its flavor. This tea is produced at Glenmorgon and some other Estates in Otty area only. Glenmorgon estate is one of the oldest estates here.
